Because of the rigorous cleaning and disinfecting of our facilities and adhering to high standards, you are safer here than in many community establishments such as your local grocery store. |2019 Spring Newsletter THE FIRST HOSPITAL IN WESTCHESTER When the doors opened in 1869, St. John’s Riverside Hospital provided the community with unmatched personal care. Our values have never changed since those six women from St. John’s Episcopal Church on Warburton Avenue provided compassionate healthcare to the sick in our community. Almost thirty years later, in 1896, The Cochran School of Nursing graduated their first class, establishing their legacy as one of the premier hospital-based nursing schools in the nation. St. John’s Riverside Hospital’s level of excellence in medical advancements and technologies has led us to new and unprecedented milestones in our history. The Westchester Orthopedic Center at St. John’s Riverside Hospital is the first and only hospital in Westchester to offer the full range of MAKOplasty® Robotics for partial knee, total hip, and NOW total knee replacements. In addition, we now offer three-dimensional mammography (also called digital breast tomosynthesis) which creates a three-dimensional picture of the breast using X-rays.
St. John’s Riverside Hospital is also rated as one of the top hospitals in Westchester by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid and we are proud to announce that we now offer Graduate Medical Education.

JOHN’S RIVERSIDE HOSPITAL’S ANDRUS PAVILION’S 5OTH ANNIVERSARY Fifty years ago, St. John’s Riverside Hospital opened its present 14-story, 273-bed Andrus Pavilion on North Broadway. Even then, it offered the most comprehensive healthcare services available. As the community grew, it soon became obvious that a larger hospital was needed in order to serve the needs of an expanding, diverse community. The American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer (CoC) has granted St. John’s Riverside Hospital its Outstanding Achievement Award. This award is given to a select group of 106 currently accredited and newly accredited cancer programs across the United States that were surveyed in 2011.
