The Outpatient Counseling Services at St John’s Riverside Hospital provides personally tailored nutrition education consultation. The goal is to achieve and maintain better health; help manages chronic diseases, such as renal disease, gastrointestinal diseases, and diabetes; and provide a personalized weight loss program and support.
When assessing a patient’s nutritional status dietitians look at the whole picture including the complexities of the patient’s current medical status. They look at past medical history, weight history, anthropometrics, current intake, diet history, nutrition knowledge, and lab data, both prescribed and over-the-counter medications and supplements. They also consider psychosocial and economic issues affecting the patient’s nutritional status. Taking everything into account, dietitians create individualized nutrition care and or education plan. Their goal is to optimize the nutritional status of their patients thereby improving clinical outcomes.
