Neurosurgery

St. John’s Riverside Hospital’s collaborative approach enables us to offer comprehensive Neurological and Spine Surgery care to our patients. Our team of spine surgeons diagnose, treat, and provide preventative care tailored to our patient’s needs. St. John’s Riverside Hospital uses the most effective, innovative methods available for relief from acute and chronic conditions of the spine.

Our renowned Neurological team takes the time to analyze cases based on the individual and thoroughly explain any needed operations. They use the most innovative techniques and state-of-the-art technology available, including; minimally invasive surgery, microsurgery and neuroradiology imaging. Our Neurosurgeons specialize in treatments for patients who have medical co-morbidities and complex histories of multiple prior procedures.

St. John’s Riverside Hospital’s Neurosurgeons have developed a formula for determining the cause of a patient’s spinal problems and establish a diagnosis based on an algorithm developed from caring for thousands of patients. Once they have comprehensive diagnostic information, they review your case in a multi-disciplinary conference where a variety of opinions are sought from collaborating physicians and specialists to design your treatment plan.

Complex Spine Procedures

The St. John’s Riverside Hospital Team of Advanced Spine and Neurosurgeons specialize in complex spine procedures often overlooked by other spine centers.

Our Spine Physician’s approach to spine care includes advanced diagnostics that enable physicians to examine the spine in relation to the total body. These tests are critical to help achieve a successful skeletal alignment for spine related issues as well as other joint problems.

Restoring the spine will measurably improve nervous system function, reduce pain, and the progression of degenerative joint and disc disease, improving patient’s quality of life.

Awake Spinal Fusion

Awake Spinal Fusion is a minimally invasive procedure available to stop the motion at a painful vertebral segment or add support to a weak spine that doesn’t require general anesthesia. The procedure utilizes local anesthesia and results in significantly less pain and requires fewer narcotics. Most patients are able to walk a few hours after surgery.

Commonly performed Spine Surgery procedures include:

Anterior Cervical Spine
Posterior Cervical Spine
Posteror Thoracolumbar: Decompression (Minimally invasive & open)
Anterior/Lateral Thoracolumbar
Spinal Deformity
Spinal Tumors
Pain Management
Functional Spine Surgery: Spinal Cord Stimulation, Intrathecal pumps
Adult & Pediatric Deformity

Commonly performed Neurosurgery procedures include:

Brain Tumor Surgery: Primary & Metastatic
Arachnoid Cyst Surgery
VP Shunt Surgery: Hydrocephalus/Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus
Subdural Hematoma Surgery: Burr holes & Craniotomy
Carpal Tunnel Surgery
