With United Healthcare insurance, I was a patient of Montefiore, but they stopped taking my insurance abruptly. I needed to switch and found St. John’s Riverside Hospital accepted United Healthcare. I met Dr. Stephen Erosa for hip pain. He controlled the pain with a few rounds of cortisone shots every 6 months for 2 years. Eventually, the hip pain was too much, and he recommended surgery after the last cortisone battery of shots no longer worked.
Dr. Erosa recommended Dr. Vishal Mehta, an orthopedic specialist who I was able to see within a week. After examining me, he arranged surgery immediately since he could access the shared medical records which fast-tracked his understanding of my health issues.
I had MAKOplasty® robotic hip surgery with Dr Mehta in February. The next day physical therapy worked with me. I was able to get up by myself and begin the healing process. Progress went so well that by July, I was back in the gym aggressively lifting weights and feeling no pain.
